TEMPE FIRE MEDICAL RESCUE ACHIEVES 6TH ACCREDITATION

Under the original vision and leadership of retired Fire Chief Cliff Jones, Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department (then Tempe Fire Department), agreed to become the “alpha” test site for accreditation. In 1997, TFMR became the 1st internationally accredited fire department, with re-accreditation happening every 5 years since.

There were four additional departments who participated as “beta” test sites for accreditation. Of the original five departments, three still remain accredited. Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department would like to congratulate and recognize Greensboro and Naperville Fire Departments for achieving their 6th accreditation. We are proud to be considered a legacy department by your sides and congratulations on achieving this great accomplishment!

Accreditation is an international recognition of achievement that is centered around continuous improvement through data driven performance indicators. The self-assessment model that is completed is verified and validated by peer assessors from around the world.

There are 301 accredited agencies around the world, 114 also having an ISO rating of 1. As of 2019, TFMR has held both designations.

Please join us in congratulating all the men and women of Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department for all of their dedication and hard work as they continuously strive to provide the highest level of service to the community!!

Cooking Safety

Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries and the second leading cause of home fire deaths.

What you should know about home cooking safety:

  • Be on alert! If you are sleepy or have consumed alcohol, don’t use the stove or stovetop.
  • Stay in the kitchen while you are frying, grilling, boiling, or broiling food.
  • If you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly, remain in the kitchen while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
  • Keep anything that can catch fire — oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels or curtains — away from your stovetop.
  • Keep young children and pets at least 3 feet away from the stove.

If you have a cooking fire:

  • Just get out! When you leave, close the door behind you to help contain the fire.
  • Call 9-1-1 after you exit your home.
  • If you try to fight the fire, be sure others are getting out and you have a clear way out.
  • Keep a lid nearby when you’re cooking to smother small grease fires. Smother the fire by sliding the lid over the pan and turn off the burner. Leave the pan covered until it is completely cooled.
  • Never throw water on a grease fire.
  • For an oven fire, turn off the heat and keep the door closed.
  • For a microwave fire, turn off or unplug the microwave and keep the door closed.
