The City of Tempe is providing free loanable laptops, technology support and age-friendly technology classes to low-income older adults.

Connect Tempe is an innovative program that seeks to support digital equity for low-income older adults through access to free services such as loanable devices and technology classes,.

Technology Classes

Connect Tempe is partnering with Senior Planet from AARP to help people over 50 learn new online skills. When you sign up for the Digital Skills Ready@50+ program, you’ll gain the essential skills you need to navigate an increasingly digital world.  Whether you’re looking for a job or hoping to stay connected with family and friends, Digital Skills Ready@50+ classes offer trainings on a wide range of technologies.  Click here to view available classes.

 

Loanable Laptops

Older adults who qualify for the Connect Tempe program will receive free loanable technology in the form of a Chromebook laptop.  Applications will be accepted until all devices have been loaned.  Program eligibility:

  • Must be age 50+
  • Must be a Tempe or Guadalupe resident.
  • Must have a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines: Click here to view.

Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule an in-person device pick up/training time.  Applicants MUST present their proof of eligibility documents to receive loaned device. Documentation options include:

  • State issued photo ID or passport.
  • Current lease agreement, utility statement, post-marked mail.
  • Pay stub, Social Security statement, award letter from SNAP/ACP/Housing program.
