Tempe’s CII customers have access to free, customized water efficiency consultations, which typically begin with an evaluation of internal plumbing fixtures, leak identification, testing and verification of water flow rates and a review of site-specific historical water consumption.

Outdoor Water Efficiency Consultations are a free resource to Tempe CII customers where we will discuss a variety of topics, including plant pruning, watering practices, irrigation maintenance, plant selection and more. Tempe offers an opportunity for businesses to gain recognition for their water conservation efforts.

Tempe’s Water Conservation and Efficiency Program works to connect with the development community and provide resources to ensure that growth and re-development is done with water efficiency in mind. Tempe Ordinance 92.27 (TCC 33-140-142) requires that a Water Conservation Report be completed and submitted before a building permit is issued for new, non-residential buildings and the commercial portion of mixed-use buildings, and for additions, alterations or tenant improvements of non-residential buildings and structures and the commercial portion of mixed-use buildings and structures. New, non-residential buildings that have an estimated annual use averaging 10-acre feet of water per day or more (excluding turf-related facilities) are required to submit a Water Use Plan. Both the Water Conservation Report and the Water Use Plan require a seal by an Arizona-registered architect or engineer confirming they comply with this code as a condition to the issuance of a building permit.

Developers may create their own water conservation reports or use this template. Submit completed reports to conservation at conservation@tempe.gov.
