Today's grease waste, tomorrow's energy
Nearly one in five Tempe restaurants have enrolled in the Tempe Grease Cooperative (TGC). These business owners understand that membership in the TGC is the best decision for their businesses, their community and their environment.

Tempe Grease Cooperative
The TGC is an innovative partnership between the City of Tempe and its food service establishments to better manage fats, oils and grease (FOG). It is the first program in the world in which a city brokers both pricing and service quality for grease control device maintenance on behalf of community food service establishments.
Competitive costs
Through the collective contracts established and administered by the city, the TGC offers its members competitive service costs. See current TGC Service Prices.
Service quality
As the administrative arm of the Cooperative, the city holds contracted
haulers to the highest standards, guaranteeing top-quality service
for TGC members. This commitment to quality service not only prevents
backups and odors but also extends the lifespan of grease control
devices.
Repair and replacement support
As grease control devices age, the necessity for repairs and, in some
instances, replacements becomes increasingly vital to maintaining their
functionality. This upkeep is crucial for safeguarding our publicly owned
treatment works (POTW). If repairs or replacements are needed, the
Tempe Grease Cooperative may offer guidance throughout the process.
Compliance assurance
Guaranteed compliance can be as easy as receiving the scheduled
service and paying the bill on time. TGC members are assured
compliance with all city requirements pertaining to grease traps and
interceptor cleaning and maintenance.
Voluntary enrollment
The Tempe Grease Cooperative is a voluntary program; any food service establishment may choose to join or withdraw at any time with no fees and no contract.
A sustainable alternative
Partners in the TGC are doing more than addressing their
plumbing needs. They play a vital role in the city’s efforts to solve
larger environmental challenges.
- They help create more sustainable sewer infrastructure for
the city and plumbing infrastructure for their business. - They help ensure that Tempe’s neighborhoods remain clean
and odor-free. - They know their waste is being properly managed and not
illegally dumped. - They are partners with the city in its pursuit of opportunities
to utilize FOG in the generation of renewable energy.
