Career Ready Tempe

By the time today’s preschoolers complete high school, 7 of every 10 jobs will require some type of higher education. Career Ready Tempe aims to help prepare and develop Tempe youth to participate in the future workforce by connecting youth to college and career readiness support and partnering with Tempe employers to provide youth with paid internship opportunities in fields that are in-demand. Internships will be held during the summer months of June and July 2025. Students will complete a total of 120 internship hours over 6 weeks. The program focuses on providing internships in the Advanced Business Services, Advanced Manufacturing, and Bio Science sectors.

 

Career Ready Tempe is a collaboration between the City of Tempe and the Tempe Chamber Foundation. It has been strategically designed to align with industry needs and the initiatives of Achieve65Tempe, Tempe City Council’s goal to reach degree attainment for 65% of its residents by the year 2030, through collective community efforts

Business Eligibility Requirements

 

Businesses Must:

  • Submit a Career Ready Tempe Business application by the deadline of March 15, 2025. Applications received after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list and reviewed based on program need.
  • Be located within the City of Tempe.
  • Have a physical business location.
  • Be in good standing with the Arizona Corporation Commission.
  • Be willing to sign an agreement with the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
  • Designate an on-site intern supervisor.
  • Provide a job description with meaningful project assignments (administrative tasks= No more than 20% of work).
  • Provide a safe working environment (that meets all the required and recommended safety precautions as mandated by local, county, state and federal health officials related to COVID-19 safety);
  • Assume liability for any student-intern injured in an on-the-job incident;

Agreement & Signature

Business agrees to:

  • Attend a Career Ready Tempe orientation session for businesses. 
  • Provide a safe working environment (that includes meeting all the required and recommended precautions as mandated by local, county, state and federal health officials related to COVID-19 safety);
  •  and assume liability for any intern injured in a work-related accident.
  • Collaborate with intern(s) to identify learning outcomes and objectives that coincide with business needs and contribute to the student’s career goals and career development.
  • Provide intern(s) with an orientation to the work setting at the start of their internship.
  • Designate a company representative to serve as a supervisor who will be responsible for assigning intern projects, evaluating interns and approving intern timesheet prior to Tempe Chamber of Commerce Foundation approval.
  • Provide Career Ready Tempe interns with no more than 20 hours of work per week within an 6-week period, totaling 120 hours, during June and July 2025
  • Refrain from scheduling Career Ready Tempe interns for work past 10:00 p.m. on any given night.
  • Provide Career Ready Tempe interns with meaningful projects that will help build their job skills and contribute to their career development.
  • Require Career Ready Tempe interns to work on no more than 3 hours of administrative tasks per week (20% of work assignments).
  • Contact the Career Ready Tempe Coordinator if the company has any pressing or persistent concerns with a Career Ready Tempe intern. 
  • Provide reasonable accommodations for student-interns with disabilities if needed.
  • Sign an agreement with the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
