Home MenuCountry Club Way Bicycle & Pedestrian Improvement Project
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The project stretches from the U.S. 60 on the north to Warner Road on the south, roughly following the alignment of Country Club Way. The project will include a 10-foot wide concrete path, an adjacent equestrian path (between Warner and Elliot roads), landscaping, lighting, shade nodes, and a pedestrian-activated traffic signal at Warner Road. The portions of the project that are on-street will include the addition of bicycle facilities and improve the pedestrian environment and ADA access. The addition of bike lanes will not require the removal of vehicular travel lanes.

LATEST PROJECT UPDATE - Jan. 3, 2025
Baseline Road to the Western Canal
The Western Canal to Guadalupe Road: Scheduled to take place Monday, Jan. 6, crews will place temporary striping on the recently paved road between Guadalupe Road and Diamond Drive on Country Club Way and return in approximately 30 days to apply final striping.
Guadalupe Road and Country Club Way intersection: Scheduled to take place the week of Jan. 13, electric crews will relocate traffic signals at the intersection. Following this work, scheduled for mid to late January, concrete crews will work at the intersection to conduct ADA upgrades at the corner ramps. The intersection will remain open for travel; however, lane or turn restrictions may be in place to accommodate this work.
South of Baseline Road on Country Club Way: Concrete crews completed work to install chicanes on the west side of Country Club Way, and starting January 13, will return to install similar chicanes on the east side. Chicanes on the east side will be slightly narrower to provide for comfortable lane widths. Once the concrete chicanes are installed, to accommodate future landscape at the chicanes, waterline crews will install irrigation sleeves.
Baseline Road and Country Club Way intersection: Scheduled to take place in mid to late January, concrete crews will work at the Baseline intersection to conduct ADA upgrades at the corner ramps. The intersection will remain open for travel; however, lane or turn restrictions may be in place to accommodate this work.
South of the Western Canal to Warner Road
The path is currently closed from Elliot Road to Warner Road as crews work to complete improvements in this area. Over the next couple of weeks, crews will install plantings, decomposed granite (DG) for the equestrian path, form and pour remaining concrete curbing, and complete installation and solar connections for lighting. In addition, scheduled to begin the week of Jan. 6, crews will install the shade structure along the multi-use path at Citation Lane. Sidewalks on Elliot Road and Warner Road remain open as a detour around the closure.
Scheduled for Monday, Jan. 6, crews will place temporary striping on Shutterfly Way north of Elliot Road and return in approximately 30 days to apply final striping.
Access to residences will be maintained during this work, but please be aware of barricades, signage and detours. Please plan for extra travel time as traffic lanes will be closed or restricted during certain phases of work. Please follow no parking signage when posted; vehicles may be towed to a nearby location listed on the no parking notice. Project dates and hours are subject to change due to weather, equipment or other unforeseen issues in the field. We thank you for your continued patience as we help enhance this important transportation asset.
PHASE 2
Design of Phase 2 from US 60 to Broadway is anticipated to begin in late 2025.
HISTORY
In May 2016, the Transportation Commission provided consensus with submitting this Transportation Master Plan identified project for a Maricopa Association of Governments design assistance grant; which was awarded $82,500 to develop a preliminary project assessment report and design concepts. In 2017, public meetings were held to gather feedback on the preliminary design concepts and report; and a cost estimate was developed. Following the completion of this report, staff pursued, and were awarded a federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant for the construction of the project.
